Tôkyô shônen review

Posted : 14 years, 3 months ago on 10 January 2010 07:45 (A review of Tôkyô shônen)

"I thought, I already used to not seeing the one I love. But I'm stil not use to being alone. Why did God made our soul so delicate and fragile?"

to a place where there are no tears left to cry

Posted : 14 years, 4 months ago on 1 December 2009 02:06 (A review of 1 Litre of Tears )

"It's okay if you fall.
You can just get up again.
Why don't you look up at the sky, while you're down there.
The blue sky spreads across above you.
Can you see it smiling at you?
You are alive."

“The flower petals are opening up,
each one more than the other.
The flowers will once again blossom in full glory.
Knowing yesterday what will happen to them today,
made me happy.”

"On the opposite coast of sadness
is something called a smile
But before we can go there,
is there something we’re waiting for?
In order to chase our dreams, we can’t have a reason to run away
We’ve got to go, to that far away summer’s day
If we find it tomorrow, we can’t sigh
Because like a boat that opposes the stream
we have to walk straight on
In a place worn down by sadness
something called a miracle, is waiting
Yet we are still searching
for the sunflower that grows at the end of spring
The warrior who awaits the morning light
before he can clasp it with red nails, his tears glitter and fall
Even if we’ve grown used to loneliness."

and they drift away

Posted : 14 years, 9 months ago on 28 July 2009 08:42 (A review of 5 Centimeters Per Second)

The film it's divided in three chapters which portrays different stages of Takaki Tono's life having to deal with distance between the girl he loves.

If you ever had someone you like somehow taken away from you by a large distance then 5 centimeters per second it's going to describe your feelings perfectly, I really feel in Takaki's place, sometimes...

Different from others Makoto Shinkai's works this film doesn't have science fiction elements which creates a realistic view of the world we live in, and how sometimes we hold on so tight in our past but time and distance slowly separate we from the past and even if two person like each other one day they just move on with their lifes letting go of their hearts, learning how to grow up.

Soundtrack is great, background is beautifully made, skies are stunning. It's a simple yet complex story about life.

いっぺん、死んで 見る?

Posted : 14 years, 9 months ago on 28 July 2009 06:57 (A review of Hell Girl: Three Vessels)

"Who do you want to protect? yourself, someone else or perhaps your distant dream?"
Every episode in this season it's about one of this three things and in almost every episode people send others to hell for selfish reasons, either they want to protect themselves but do not think about others people life, either they want to protect someone but this person doesn't need or want to be protected, either it's a distant dream that revenge will not make that dream come true.

I guess 26 episodes was too much tiring and sometimes boring, people use jigoku tsushin for stupid reasons, it would be better if it was shorter.
Well, Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae it's still visually beautiful, it's the one I like the most and I love Ai's new kimono, the soundtrack is great, the opening and closing are beautiful as well.

I was expecting o lot more of the ending, it was obviously that Yuzuki was supposed to be the next Jigoku Shoujo and it is getting kind of annoying that Ai has always to be "the center", "the goddess" or something like that.

It's worth to watch if you're a Jigoku Shoujo fan but it's not the best season.

Peur(s) du noir

Posted : 14 years, 9 months ago on 23 July 2009 06:25 (A review of Fear(s) of the Dark (2007))

This film it's about your fears and your imagination.
Sometimes the way you project your fears in your head you may project them with such a huge intensity that your fears actualy become "real" to you, in a way you cannot get rid of them.
Your paranoia creates a false reality making that false reality be part of your life and your imagination keeps seeing things that aren't real.

There are several stories in this movie all of them talks about a different fear but deal with them the same way.

In each storie a different drawing style it's used all in black and white giving them a sensation of darkness.

memories in blocks

Posted : 14 years, 9 months ago on 23 July 2009 05:35 (A review of The House of Small Cubes (La maison en petits cubes))

Your life is like "blocks" in which your memories are on, the feelings of solitude are filled with sadness as you pass through those blocks, because the past always seems better than future.

It is such a lovely movie, as the old man's memories were passing I felt some kind of nostalgic sad feeling, but at the same time I felt comfortable.
Kunio Kato was able to put so many feelings on this movie and pass them to you.

The music and the drawing style helps to make the animation deeply and give it a sensation of serenity.

This is the best short film I've ever seen! I definitely recomend it.

Said the white rabbit.

Posted : 14 years, 11 months ago on 22 May 2009 08:43 (A review of Alice)

The mix of stop-motion and live-action is great, the feeling of the movie is kind of dark and surreal which I like, I have always seen Alice as something dark and bizarre, so this movie really fits in my conceptions.

Altough I particulary do not really like Jan Svankmajer's style, I think he had a really wonderful vision about Alice in this movie, like she's the one who does the puppets voices as if she was imagining them saying it, places, Alice on the little size, characters, things like that.

Neco z Alenky it is a bizarre dreamlike film not quite a movie for children in my opinion.

"I know what they mean by missing"

Posted : 14 years, 11 months ago on 22 May 2009 08:20 (A review of FairyTale: A True Story)

A lovely movie, not really a children's film, not really a fairy film.

It's a film about believing in the unbelivable, because we can never lose faith in things even if people try to make you put your feet on the ground, sometimes you have to fly a little to have dreams and hope.

The characters development, the dialogues, the details are very well worked, it captivates you.
